Went in cold and came out completely won over.

The first half had me completely hooked — the pacing, the humor, the way the conflict was set up. Then the second half arrives and it's like a different director took over. The love track slows everything down right when the momentum was building. There's a solid message film buried in here somewhere, but it keeps getting interrupted by unnecessary songs. The lead does a genuinely good job carrying scenes that don't deserve the effort he's putting in. Technically the film is polished — the cinematography in the flashback portions especially stood out. I wanted to love this more than I did. Still worth a watch for the performances alone.
